Curriculum Vitae

Marlene Skog’s career as performer, award winning choreographer and teacher spans over twenty-five years at home and abroad. A native New Yorker born in Brooklyn, Marlene studied in the hub of dance including the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, Merce Cunningham Studios, New Dance Group, and Ballet Arts-Carnegie Hall. She holds a B.A. and M.F.A. in dance, is Assistant Professor of Dance at the University of Wisconsin Madison teaching ballet and World Dance Cultures. Her experience as a freelance artist is vast, however it was in Europe where she found artistic inspiration. She worked in Sweden for fourteen years as dancer, teacher and choreographer, directed an international dance company, collaborated with Swedish choreographer Birgit Cullberg and founded Uppsala Dansakademin, an establishment for dance arts today. She has been choreographer for the International Arts Festival Norway, Scandinavian Cultural Conference, the International Women’s Convention Uppsala University, official cultural events, historical theater and folk opera. She was awarded the prestigious, Peoples University Cultural Prize, Gosta Knutsson Cultural Award and NordBanken’s Cultural Award, each a unique honor for a non-Swedish citizen. Additionally her work has been performed at King’s Palace Edinburgh Scotland. Skog received the Creative Achievement Award from the University of Arizona and is first recipient of the Green Valley Concert Association Fellowship Award in choreography. She presented scholarly research at the National Dance Education Organization conference and received the TRIO Award for Excellence at UW-Madison. Skog continues to create new dances and teach ballet as a contemporary dance form and living expression.
