A statement from the members of 
the University of Wisconsin-Madison Dance Department 
in response to the killing of George Floyd 
and the violence upon Black bodies

We, the members of the UW-Madison Dance Department, speak out against the killing of George Floyd which took place in Minneapolis, MN on May 25, 2020. Just one week later, on June 1, David McAtee also lost his life while he protested the death of George Floyd, and many others, now protesting across the U.S., are facing excessive violence and force. Images of George Floyd losing his life at the hands of white police officers, a horrifying and traumatic event, were witnessed by millions of Americans over social media and on cable news. These are only the latest in a long string of violent deaths at the hands of police. The unrelenting acts of violence upon Black bodies and the unconscionable killings of Black people in our country must stop. Read more...
