Skog's second Chicago ballet concert a ‘standout’

September 18, 2018

UW-Madison’s Marlene Skog presented her second evening-length contemporary ballet concert, “Consider It Not So Deeply,” Aug. 31 to Sept. 1 at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts in Chicago.

The concert explores the conflicting layers of the female psyche in Shakespeare’s women through Skog's powerful, demanding choreography, Shakespeare's theatrical prose, and original sound, designed by Matan Rubinstein and Timothy Russell.

Skog is an assistant professor with the School of Education’s Dance Department, and her concert received rave reviews from Picture the Post.

Writing for the website, Amy Munice deemed Skog's choreography "attention getting," where "unexpected gestures ... a Skog trademark of sorts" created "a choreographic spice that ratchets up [the audience's] engagement yet another notch."

Munice also noted performances by dance artists Liz Sexe and Shannon Quirk, as well as UW-Madison Dance alums Mary Patterson and Kimi Evelyn. She called Amy Panganiban's costume design "pitch perfect" and says they, along with Skog's choreography were "certainly standouts on any dance stage."

There will be another opportunity to see this concert in Madison in November at the H'Doubler Performance Space.
