Student Concert Production Information

The Kloepper Concert is presented by the Dance Department once each year. It is the fall-semester venue for student dancers to apply technique in performance and for student choreographers to present their work. The Kloepper concert, while fully produced, takes place in an intimate studio setting.

The H'Doubler Concert is presented by the Dance Department once each year. It is the spring-semester venue for student dancers to apply technique in performance and for student choreographers to present their work. The H'Doubler concert is formally presented in the Dance Department's theatre.

In order to present pieces in the Student Concert, students must have taken Dance 255 (Composition). Student choreography is accepted into the concert process by application and audition of substantial works. The adjudication process includes audition, call back(s), and final showing. Official acceptance into the program is determined after the final showing. During the application process, students may elect to have a mentor. Students may request a particular mentor and ask a specific instructor to function in this role. However, the adjudication committee ultimately decides which instructors will mentor which students.

Students may audition either as a choreographer or a dancer for a total of three pieces. Student participants are expected to attend and be on time for all tech and production-week rehearsals. Choreographers should inform their dancers and musicians of the schedule to ensure that they will be on time for all rehearsals. Before a tech rehearsal, everything must be ready for performance: choreography complete, props and costumes fully prepared, and music set. All choreographers and dancers are expected to strike following the final performance.
