Koykkar brings work to Arts Agôn, presents music in New York

February 21, 2018
Early in December, UW-Madison's Joseph Koykkar presented at the first Arts Agôn session, sponsored by the UW Arts Institute. He shared his work on electro-acoustic and sound design for the collaborative piece "When Time Ran Out," which was performed earlier this month in the faculty concert "in tension."

Arts Agôn is described as a "TED Talk meets PechaKucha-style presentation" where arts researchers share their work with each other and with campus colleagues, creating connections and encouraging dialogue.

And in January, the modern ballet "Martha (The Searchers)" by New York-based choreographer Julia Gleich, featured selections of Koykkar's music on its soundtrack.

This time, the ballet, along with Koykkar's music, was performed in New York at the Goldman-Sonnenfeldt Auditorium in conjunction with the national conference of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP). APAP is an opportunity for presenters across the country to scout new work, and is held annually in New York City in January. Koykkar's music and the ballet were also performed in Brooklyn in October 2017.

Koykkar is a professor with the UW-Madison Dance Department, which is housed within the School of Education.
